Why is my wall decal lifting, and what should I do?
If your decal is lifting, pause and get in touch. A photo of the lifted area, the product name and a little information about the wall help us work out the next step. Avoid adding glue or repeatedly pulling the decal off while you are unsure.

Start with the wall and the material
A decal relies on the surface underneath it. Dust, moisture, an uneven surface or a paint finish that does not suit the adhesive can affect the result. Recently painted walls also need time to cure: allow at least four weeks after painting, or longer if the paint manufacturer requires it, before installation.
Tell us whether your decal is woven fabric or vinyl, which paint or surface it is on, and when the wall was painted. The preparation and installation steps are not interchangeable for every material. A sample matched to your chosen design is useful if you are uncertain before ordering.
Look at what is lifting
Is it a small edge, a separate letter, an entire section, or paint coming away with the decal? Those are different problems. Take a close-up and another photo showing the whole installation. If you are partway through using application tape, tell us that too.
Do not stretch a woven fabric decal while trying to reposition it. Work slowly and stop if the material or wall finish begins to change. With detailed vinyl, keeping the pieces in position is part of the installation process, so it is worth getting advice before removing more tape.

Paint coming off needs a different approach
Removable adhesive does not make weak paint stronger. Antony has seen cases where plaster dust left beneath a paint system contributed to the paint lifting. Rushing removal can also put extra stress on the finish.
That is a practical example, not a diagnosis for every wall. If paint comes away, stop and send photos. Do not cover the area with more adhesive or start sanding an unknown old coating. The underlying surface may need appropriate attention first.
A previous bad experience does not tell the whole story
We regularly hear from people who have had inexpensive imported wall stickers peel or lift and are understandably nervous about trying again. We focus on the things we can control: selecting material for the design, making to order, appropriate packaging, clear instructions and support from our New Zealand team.
Our standard decals have a matte finish, and designs are closely cut where that suits the artwork. If you would like to see how a particular material behaves on your wall, email us the design you are considering and ask about a sample.

Should I add extra glue to a lifting decal?
Please contact us first. Extra adhesive can change how the decal behaves and how it removes, and may make the original problem harder to assess.
Does lifting always mean the decal is faulty?
No. The material, surface, paint condition and installation can all matter. Photos and a few details help us assess your particular case.
Can dust stop a decal sticking?
Dust can interfere with contact between the adhesive and the surface. Preparation should leave a suitable surface clean and fully dry.
Can I install on paint that feels dry?
Touch-dry is not the same as cured. Allow at least four weeks after painting, or longer if the paint manufacturer requires it, before installation.
What if the paint comes away?
Stop rather than continuing to pull. Send us a photo of the paint and decal so we can advise on the next step.
Should I keep peeling and reapplying a woven decal?
Avoid repeated handling while you are troubleshooting. It can introduce dust or stretch the material. Ask us for advice first.
Can you help before I buy?
Yes. Tell us the design and wall surface you have in mind. We can discuss preparation and send a sample of the relevant material.
What is the quickest way to explain the problem?
Send a close-up, a wider photo, the product name and what happened. Include paint and preparation details if you know them; you do not need to know every technical term.
