YDS Studio / Our Process
Our Process
Everything we need to understand your project and get started.
You don’t need a finished brief. A photo, a few measurements and an idea of what you want are enough to start.
Custom murals · Wall graphics · Glass graphics
Designed and made in New Zealand. Projects nationwide.
From first conversation to finished space
A clear path.
Room for your ideas.
Whether you have finished artwork or just a wall in mind, we’ll help you work out the next step.

Tell us about your space.
Send a photo or plan, rough dimensions, your location and what you’d like the space to feel like. Inspiration is welcome; a complete concept isn’t required.
Your part: send what you havePlan
Agree on the right approach.
We discuss coverage, design, materials, timing and budget, then prepare a quote. You’ll know what is included before we begin.
Together: confirm the scope and quoteDesign
See it take shape.
We can develop a bespoke concept, adapt your branding or prepare supplied artwork. We refine the agreed direction with you, then ask for artwork approval.
Your part: feedback and final approvalMake
Made for this space.
We confirm final dimensions, surface requirements and materials before production. Your graphics are then made to order in our New Zealand studio.
Our part: technical checks and in-house productionInstall
Plan the finishing details.
Where installation is included, we coordinate access and a suitable time with your team. We complete the installation and hand over relevant care information.
Together: site access, installation and handover
Your starting point
Let’s get started.
Three things help us understand your project.
Gather what you can. We’ll help with the rest.
Also helpful: your ideal timing, an indicative budget and whether you need installation.

No elevations? No problem.
Show us
the whole wall.
A phone photo is fine. Stand directly opposite the wall, step back and keep the phone level.
- Include the ceiling, floor and both edges of the wall.
- Use the normal 1× lens where possible. Avoid an angled shot.
- Add a wider room photo and a close-up of the surface.
Tight space? Send overlapping, straight-on photos. Send original files so we can see the detail.
A few useful measurements
Width. Height.
What’s in the way.
Measure in millimetres and label each wall if there is more than one.
- Full width: from one side of the wall to the other.
- Usable height: from the top of the skirting to the underside of the ceiling or scotia.
- Doors and windows: outer frame sizes, distances from the wall edges and the gap above. Note sockets, vents and other fixtures.
These measurements help us quote. We’ll agree any site checks and final measurements needed before production.

Send the latest dimensioned plans, with the relevant walls marked. Photos are still useful for understanding the surface and surroundings.
Making the right choices
A budget helps us
design with purpose.
There are often several ways to approach a space. A budget range helps us balance coverage, materials and design effort to create the strongest result for the investment.
Not sure what to allow? Tell us what matters most and we can discuss the options.
Talk through your projectWhat if I already have artwork?
Send it through. We can work with your designer, adapt existing branding or develop a concept from scratch.
Vector artwork: AI, EPS, SVG or PDF, with text outlined where possible. Otherwise, include font names or brand guidelines.
Photographs: send the original, full-resolution file. We’ll check suitability at the intended print size. Share a folder link for large files.
How do you choose the right material?
We consider the surface, condition, environment, cleaning requirements and intended use. We’ll discuss suitable finishes and any preparation or testing needed.
For glass, explore our window manifestation and glass graphics service.
Can you work around our site and team?
Yes. We coordinate with architects, interior designers, facilities teams, contractors and project managers across New Zealand. We have experience in operational environments such as hospitals.
Let us know about access, other trades and your target date early. Design, production and installation timings depend on the project and are agreed with you.
How do payment and design fees work?
As a general guide, projects under $10,000 are paid upfront. Projects over $10,000 are generally 60% on confirmation and 40% following completion of installation.
Additional design work is currently $128 + GST per hour where applicable. Your individual quote confirms the design allowance, payment stages and terms for your project.
