Wairau Hospital’s Children’s Ward was transformed with the largest custom wall graphic installation ever completed in New Zealand. This full-ward project draws inspiration from the nearby Wairau Lagoon, featuring hand-drawn murals of New Zealand’s native plants and birds to create a vibrant therapeutic environment.

Stretching across walls, doors and corners, the murals flow seamlessly through the ward, designed to calm, comfort and engage young patients and their families. To encourage interaction, a matching colouring book was also developed from the mural artwork.

This landmark healthcare project was awarded Gold at the 2025 Pride in Print Awards, recognising both its scale and impact. Today, staff and families describe the ward as brighter, more welcoming, and a positive influence on the overall care environment.
