The design

A low, detailed native silhouette

A long tail, textured scales and a spiny crest define this side-on tuatara. Its low, wide shape makes a distinctive feature along an open horizontal stretch of wall, with detail that rewards a closer look.

Size and placement

Follow the full tail

Measure from the nose to the tail tip. Even at 1 m wide, this design is only approximately 31 cm high, making it a different fit from the taller tree and branch artworks.

Dimensions are approximate. Metres are used from 1 m upward, and centimetres below 1 m. Measure your available wall space before choosing.

Available artwork dimensions

  • 40 cm wide x 12 cm high
  • 60 cm wide x 18 cm high
  • 1 m wide x 31 cm high
  • 1.2 m wide x 37 cm high
  • 1.8 m wide x 55 cm high

Made here, for your wall

What arrives

The artwork shows the complete side-on tuatara, including its long tail, in the composition pictured.

Made to order in New Zealand in removable matte vinyl, printed with water-based inks.

Application tape holds the detail together while you transfer the artwork to the wall. It is removed after application.

Check your surface first

Best on a smooth, sound painted wall. Let new paint cure fully before installation. Removable does not mean reusable, and removal results depend on the paint and wall condition. Unsure about your finish? Send us a close-up photo before ordering.

How application-tape installation works
  1. Position the decal and use the side-hinge method shown in the guide, approximately 20 cm from the top.
  2. Remove the backing and smooth the artwork onto the wall as directed in the supplied guide.
  3. Remove the application tape last, leaving the artwork on the wall.

Tuatara are the last living members of an ancient reptile order. They grow slowly, can live for a century, and can remain active in surprisingly cool weather.

Where to find tuatara in New Zealand

Map of New Zealand

Tuatara survive naturally on offshore islands, including Takapourewa/Stephens Island in Cook Strait. Conservation work has also reintroduced them to protected habitats such as Zealandia Te Māra a Tāne in Wellington and Tiritiri Matangi in the Hauraki Gulf, helping restore this ancient reptile to more of New Zealand.

Drawn and made in New Zealand

We sketch and draw our designs in-house, working together as a team to develop each artwork. From those first drawings, we build high-resolution vector artwork in our design software, refining the detail and matching the colours before making your decal here in New Zealand.
