Toetoe and kōtare library room view from another angle with crisp original artwork

The design

Bring a little of the New Zealand coast indoors with toetoe and two kōtare in flight.

Cream-coloured toetoe plumes rise above a dense sweep of green leaves, while two kōtare, our native kingfishers, add flashes of blue and movement. The tall composition makes a natural feature beside a doorway, in a reading corner or along a welcoming reception wall. Hand-drawn by our in-house team, developed together from sketches into detailed vector artwork, then colour-matched and made to order in our New Zealand studio.

Size and placement

Find the right size for your space

Position the base of the foliage at the top of your skirting, keeping the artwork level. The tallest plume sets the overall height. Leave enough clear wall above and beside the design for the birds and plumes.

Dimensions are approximate. Metres are used from 1 m upward, and centimetres below 1 m. Measure your available wall space before choosing.

Available artwork dimensions

  • 60 cm wide x 1 m high
  • 1 m wide x 1.67 m high
  • 1.2 m wide x 2 m high
  • 1.8 m wide × 3 m high

Made here, for your wall

What arrives

Includes the grass, flower plumes and two birds as separate sections. Listed dimensions describe the full arrangement shown; placement can vary. Supplied with application tape, removed after installation. The 3 m-high size is supplied in multiple pieces. We recommend a professional installer for this size. Contact us for an installation quote through our New Zealand-wide installation partners. Installation is not included in the decal price.

Made to order in New Zealand in removable matte vinyl, printed with water-based inks.

Application tape holds the detail together while you transfer the artwork to the wall. It is removed after application.

Check your surface first

Best on a smooth, sound painted wall. Let new paint cure fully before installation. Removable does not mean reusable, and removal results depend on the paint and wall condition. Unsure about your finish? Send us a close-up photo before ordering.

How application-tape installation works
  1. Position the decal and use the side-hinge method shown in the guide, approximately 20 cm from the top.
  2. Remove the backing and smooth the artwork onto the wall as directed in the supplied guide.
  3. Remove the application tape last, leaving the artwork on the wall.

Kōtare are found in coastal and freshwater habitats throughout New Zealand, from estuaries and river margins to farmland and forest edges. Their blue-green plumage and patient watch from a perch are familiar sights around Aotearoa.

Drawn and made in New Zealand

We sketch and draw our designs in-house, working together as a team to develop each artwork. From those first drawings, we build high-resolution vector artwork in our design software, refining the detail and matching the colours before making your decal here in New Zealand.
