How can I personalise a rental without repainting or drilling holes?
Start with things you can change without altering the walls: cushions, a throw, a rug, and artwork displayed on a suitable existing surface or stand. If you want a wall-mounted feature, check the property’s decorating permissions and the exact fixing or adhesive system before buying. “No drilling” does not automatically mean “no risk to the paint”.

Make the portable changes first
Choose a palette from the furniture and flooring you cannot change, then add one or two personal pieces. Art does not always need a newly drilled fixing. An appropriate tabletop display or secure existing picture arrangement may suit the room better.
The 1 Cent Art Print is available with different size and framing choices. Check the option you select and plan a secure display method that suits its size and weight. Do not balance a frame where it could fall or be pulled down.
If you prefer a decal, check three things
- Permission: establish what you can change and any agreed reinstatement requirements.
- The wall: identify the paint if possible, when it was applied, and whether the surface is sound, smooth and appropriate for the product.
- The material: read the specific installation and removal guidance; printed vinyl, woven products, timber and acoustic art do not all use the same adhesive.
Ask about compatibility before ordering if the paint is unknown, recent, textured, flaking or difficult to clean. A small test can be useful when recommended, but it is not a blanket guarantee of future removal without damage.

Keep removable and reusable separate
A product may be designed to come off a wall without being designed to go onto another one. Intricate cut-out pieces and woven designs can behave differently. If taking the artwork to your next home matters, make that a specific question about the product you are considering.
Our guide to murals, decals and Mural Dots can help narrow the visual choice, and the installation guides cover the relevant application methods. Avoid choosing a permanent high-tack product simply because its installation does not involve screws.
Choose a contained feature
For a rental, you may prefer one considered focal point over a large change to every wall. A smaller art arrangement is also easier to plan around furniture you might move later. Measure the actual available wall area and check that switches, sockets and door openings remain clear.
If you cannot confirm that an adhesive is suitable, stay with no-wall-alteration options for now. You can still give the room a personal palette and a subject you enjoy without making the wall the first thing you change.
Before you order
Have the product name, wall details and your agreed decorating permissions ready. If there is uncertainty, contact YDS Studio for product-specific advice. The right choice is the one that suits both the space and the conditions you need to leave it in.
