Introducing our new Kea feather Decal. This is the third instalment in our “Past. Present. Future” series. With each native feather we aim to tell a story about New Zealand/Aotearoa’s environmental past, present, future and in doing so celebrate our unique and individual connection to it. How better to represent this than to capture the unique detail and individual beauty of some of New Zealand’s beloved birds.

The Kea is one of our most beloved national icons. The worlds only mountain parrot, Keas represent New Zealander’s collective love for the outdoors and the call of adventure. Their playful, cheeky and highly intelligent nature has drawn the attention and admiration of countless wilderness explorers and travelers.

It is the unique intelligence of the Kea which creates the biggest challenges for their protection. Kea are considered nationally threatened and vulnerable, their common interactions with humans, manmade machinery and infrastructure often put them in harm’s way. The kea’s protection relies on future innovation to ensure the flourishing of New Zealand’s precious native taonga.
